Tour Details

Africa’s largest country lies just a short hop from Europe. Algeria’s big draw is its extraordinary Saharan region. Whether it’s a glimpse of the sand seas that surround Timimoun, or the burnt-red mountains of the far south, these are the desert landscapes of legend.

But, for all its peach-coloured dunes and grand ruins, it’s perhaps the Algerians themselves, who welcome visitors with warmth and curiosity, that are the real highlight of this nation. For accessible adventure and a complex, enthralling cultural odyssey, head for Algeria.

Deep in the Sahara lies the Algerian oasis of Djanet, where visitors might feel that they have actually been transported to another planet.
Parts of the landscape are more Martian or lunar, with only the blue of the sky giving the game away.

We will visit this area in the heart of Tassili N’Ajjer, precisely at the wonderful Tadrart Rouge

Everyone who has travelled to the Red Tadrart agrees that it is the most beautiful desert in the world, the landscapes are so majestic. It is true that this region of the Sahara presents an extraordinary diversity of panoramas: dunes of varied colours, rocky peaks, natural arches…

Today it is one of the driest regions in the world. It was particularly frequented during all periods of the Neolithic period. Its numerous wadis were appreciated by the shepherds who left traces of their passage. If we find very beautiful paintings in Tadrart, this region is especially famous for the engravings, certainly the most beautiful from the pastoral period. Throughout our journey, we will have the opportunity to admire these numerous testimonies of the past, more than 6,000 years old.

Itinerary

Day 1 - The adventure starts

Our trip starts at Algiers Airport, with the flight departure to Djanet at 23:00LT.

Arrival in Djanet and welcome by Touareg guides at Djanet airport,
Departure towards Tigherghert to spend the first night in bivouac shelter.

Note: Depending on your arrival time at Algiers, day tour and/or hotel accommodation can be arranged at extra cost – let us know what your requirements are

Day 2 – Tigherghert – Markaouandi - Moul N'aga

After Breakfast in Tigherghert, departure by 4×4 towards Markaouandi.
Lunch then departure towards the site of Moul N’aga while passing by the large dune of El Berj.
Bivouac placement, dinner and evening around a campfire

Day 3 - Tihi Tihoussay - Zaouatene

After breakfast, hike to the site of the cathedral (Tihi Tihoussay).

We resume our journey in 4×4. Lunch in Ouan Zaouatene and we continue our exploration to Intehak, next to the Arch of the Africa geography map.

Dinner feast and musical evening on New Year’s Eve.

Day 4 - Bouhediene - Tin Merzouga

After Breakfast, departure in 4×4 towards Bouhediene.
Lunch stop.
Departure towards the large dune of Tin Merzouga.
Ascent of the dune to contemplate one of the most wonderful sunsets.

Bivouac placement, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 5 Tahount - Tihoudayene

After Breakfast, departure by 4×4 to Tin Tahount Tarouhet
Lunch.
We continue our circuit to the erg of Tihoudayene.

Bivouac placement, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 6 - Tisseteka

Breakfast.
Hike to Tisseteka.

After lunch we take a 4×4 back to Adjalati

Bivouac placement, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 7 Tin Amali - Djanet

After Breakfast, departure by 4×4 to Tin Amali
Lunch.
Departure to the town of Djanet – Visit to the Djanet craft market
Afterwards we head towards Tigherghert to visit the site of the crying cow rock engraving (8000 BC)
Our last sunset not far from the site

Dinner and rest at bivouac to wait for the flight.

Day 8 - Algiers - Home

Transfer to Djanet airport for the departure of 02:15LT
Return flight to Algiers.

Departure from Algiers at your convenience.

The Algerian authorities have facilitated entry visas into the country for foreigners in order to encourage tourists to visit Algeria and all over the south

The visa is received at the airport after requesting (by filling out a form) the agencies from the concerned ministry (tourism) to bring in a foreign tourist group or deal with foreign travel agencies and pertaining to desert tourism.

The validity of the visa is 10 days, extendable to a maximum of one month.

The form is filled out by tourism and travel agencies.

Requirements:

– Copies of passports for foreign tourists.

– The tourism program is then sent to the Ministry of Tourism.

– If travelling to the desert, include the hotel reservation.
