It’s easy to get swept up by this winding, fragrant path as it leads you past some of the Algarve’s most beautiful natural treasures. Here, turquoise water meets warm-toned cliffs to form the quintessential Algarvian seascape—and delivers one of the most rewarding, memorable walks along this sun-kissed coastline.
This scenic route runs from Praia de Vale Centeanes in the west to Praia da Marinha in the east, linking a string of standout stops along the way—including Alfanzina Lighthouse and the beaches of Benagil and Carvalho.
Much of the walk follows the clifftops, where the coastline has been carved into dramatic forms and washed in rich ochre and gold.
Near Praia da Marinha, dense juniper and mastic scrub shelters an array of wildlife—rabbits, foxes, mongooses, warblers, owls, and several species of butterflies. In early spring, the greenery erupts into bloom, filling the trail with fragrance and colour.

We meet at your pickup point in Lagos, Portimão or Lagoa and travel to the trailhead at Praia de Vale Centeanes. Your guide introduces the route and what to expect along this iconic coastal path.
Begin the clifftop trail heading east, with sweeping views of turquoise coves below. Pass hidden sea caves and dramatic rock arches carved by the Atlantic. Stop to take in the Benagil sea cave area from above—one of Portugal’s most iconic natural wonders.
Continue past the whitewashed Alfanzina Lighthouse on a fragrant path through juniper and mastic scrub. Keep an eye out for rabbits, foxes, mongooses, warblers, and owls. The cliffs shift colour with the sun, from bright yellow to deep burnished copper.
Arrive at the stunning Praia da Marinha, one of Portugal’s most photographed beaches, where golden cliffs meet crystal-clear water. A great spot to rest before your transport back to the pickup point.
