Timeless Tunisia Tour – 8 Days

Tour Details

Tunisia may be only a slim wedge of North Africa’s vast coastline, but it offers enough history and natural variety to rival countries many times its size. Along its balmy, sand-fringed Mediterranean shore—perfumed with jasmine and sea air and famed for reliably fresh seafood—it’s ideal for a classic sun, sand, and sea escape.

Yet Tunisia is far more than its beaches. It’s a thrilling, underrated destination where distinct cultures and dramatic contrasts of landscape—from forested coasts to the Saharan sand seas of the south—can be experienced in just a few days.

Tunisia may be small, but it packs in a remarkable range of experiences—from epic Roman ruins in Africa to crystal-clear Mediterranean beaches, the vast Sahara, and a rich Berber culture. It’s also a great alternative to Morocco: you get a similar Maghrebi feel, but many areas of Tunisia remain largely unvisited, and the country is mostly free of the classic tourist scams.

It’s possible to experience much of what the country has to offer in a relatively short period of time. Tunisia is 792 kilometres from top to bottom. Tunisia is also just a short flight away from several other European and North African travel hubs, like Barcelona, Rome, Marrakech and Cairo, so it’s easy to tack on to a tour of the region. The people of Tunisia are warm, friendly and welcoming to visitors.

Tunisia is like a layer cake of ancient civilizations — Berber, Phoenician, Punic, Roman, Arab — and traces of each civilization can be seen today.
Tunisia is home to eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the colosseum at El Jem, the ruins at Carthage and Dougga, and the medinas of Tunis and Sousse. Many of these sites are incredibly well preserved and offer a glimpse of what daily life might have been like hundreds or even thousands of years ago in North Africa. And compared to similar sites in Europe, Tunisia’s ruins are rarely crowded.

The ultimate goal of any cultural tourist is to experience life as the locals experience it, and Tunisia offers plenty of opportunities to do just that…
