Tour Details

The island nation of Cape Verde lies just under 400 miles off the coast of Africa and comprises more than a dozen islands and islets with dizzying mountains, white sandy beaches, crystal-clear blue waters and seaside villages. The geological origins of this archipelago can be traced back to a volcanic hotspot deep in the Atlantic, which gave rise to steep, rugged mountains and spectacular landscapes.

Uninhabited until the 16th century, when Portuguese explorers first discovered the islands and took advantage of their strategic location for transatlantic trade, the population has rarely exceeded 500,000, and the majority of the population, of Creole descent, has European and West African origins.

The islands of Cape Verde are a place of great contrasts and immense diversity, with each of the 10 islands offering a different experience. Fortunately, most of these islands are brimming with activities and are becoming increasingly popular with tourists. From hiking up an active volcano to learning to kitesurf, not to mention moments of relaxation and unwinding.

São Vicente: Known as the island of culture and music, Mindelo charms visitors with its historic streets, its artistic atmosphere, Porto Grande Bay and the cheerfulness of its people. With its beaches, volcanic landscapes and encounters with the local population, São Vicente embodies the rhythm and creativity that are part of Cape Verdean identity. Mindelo is the capital of São Vicente and the cultural capital of Cape Verde — birthplace of Cesária Évora — with plenty of art, music and nightlife. The landscape is arid, with reddish-brown mountains and valleys, and beautiful white-sand beaches in the south-west and east.

Santo Antão: Don’t forget your walking boots. It’s a hiker’s paradise, with beautiful trails through stunning mountains and lush green valleys. Set amongst towering mountains and lush green valleys, Santo Antão reveals the power of Cape Verde’s natural world — an island of unique landscapes, where scenic roads, traditional villages, terraced farmland and welcoming communities showcase a way of life deeply rooted in the land and its traditions. Here you’ll find unspoilt nature, high mountains, impressive cliffs and fairytale villages such as Fontainhas, home to people whose kindness and good humour will ensure you have an unforgettable and timeless experience.

You will fly to and from São Vicente, travelling by ferry to and from Santo Antão.

Itinerary

Day 1 – 13 June 2027 – Arrival at São Vicente

Flight to São Vicente, Cape Verde. Arrival at 11:30 am (local time), if travelling with TAP Air Portugal. Completion of entry formalities. You will be met by a representative and taken to your hotel in Mindelo.

Once you have checked in at the hotel, you’ll have free time to explore the historic city centre, known as the cultural capital of Cape Verde. Stroll through the colourful streets of Mindelo, visit Porto Grande Bay, Praça Nova, the Municipal Market, the Belém Tower and the colonial quarter, where Cape Verdean music, art and daily life are part of everyday life.

The colonial architecture and the narrow, colourful cobbled streets that surround the entire bay lend Mindelo an overseas charm, enhanced by the vegetable and fish markets and the small Laginha beach. In the evening, dine at a local restaurant with live traditional music.
