Santo Antao Tour – 08 Days and 07 Nights

Tour Details

The island nation of Cape Verde is just under 400 miles off the coast of Africa and is made up of over a dozen islands and islets of vertigo-inducing mountains, crystal blue and white sandy beaches, and seaside villages. Uninhabited until the 1500s when Portuguese explorers first discovered the island, the population has rarely exceeded 500,000 people and the majority Creole ancestry is of European and West African descent.

The Cape Verde islands are a place of great contrasts, extremely diverse, with each of the 10 islands offering a different experience. From hiking up an active volcano to learning to kite surf — most of these islands are packed with things to do and are becoming increasingly popular for tourists.

You will fly into and out of Sao Vicente, taking the ferry to/from Santo Antao.

Sao Vicente: Mindelo is the capital of Sao Vicente and the culture capital of Cape Verde — Cesaria Evora’s hometown. A lot of art, music and nightlife. The landscape of Sao Vicente is barren with brown-red mountains and valleys. In the southwest and east you have beautiful beaches with white sand from the Sahara.

Santo Antao: Do not forget your hiking shoes. This is paradise for hikers with beautiful trails through stunning mountains and green valleys. You will find unspoiled nature, high mountains, impressive cliffs and fairytale-like villages like Fontainhas, inhabited by a population whose kindness and good humour will make you live an unforgettable and timeless experience.

The route takes us via Ribeira da Vinha, home to a magnificent 150-metre waterfall, and on to the village of Lombo de Pico, known for its spectacular volcanic neck. Day 6 - Hike Ponta do Sol - Cruzinha

Breakfast at the hotel. From Ponta do Sol, a fishing town on the island’s northeast coast, we begin by climbing up to Fontainhas, passing small plantations before reaching Selada de Corvo. From here, we enjoy sweeping views over Ponta do Sol and Corvo, then descend into a valley where water flows year-round. We continue on to Formiguinhas, a small seaside village.

From Formiguinhas, we head to Aranhas — an abandoned settlement — before reaching Mezcla de Ribeira Seca Beach, known for its striking mix of white and black sand. Time for a refreshing swim, and the nearby lava-formed caves make a perfect spot for a picnic. We then pass Motcho Beach on our way to the village of Cruzinha.
