The Cape St. Vincent Loop Walk is a challenging yet rewarding experience that takes you to the most southwestern point of mainland Europe.
The trail, on a mostly flat, circular route, offers stunning views of the Atlantic crashing against the cliffs and the opportunity to witness the famous green flash phenomenon. It’s recommended to bring extra clothes and be prepared for strong ocean winds, especially during the summer months.
Expect a few rocky sections that require good balance and stable ankles. Start through scenic coastal bushland, stop at Telheiro Beach, then follow the cliffs to the iconic lighthouse.
Along the way, take in sweeping ocean views and the historic fortress on the cape—an unforgettable mix of natural beauty and rich history.

We meet at your pickup point in Lagos, Portimão or Lagoa and travel to Sagres, at the wild southwestern tip of Europe. Your guide introduces the area’s dramatic history and geography before the hike begins.
Set off through scenic coastal bushland on a mostly flat path. Strong ocean winds are common—come prepared with an extra layer. The first major stop is the secluded Telheiro Beach, a beautiful hidden cove nestled beneath towering limestone cliffs.
From Telheiro, follow the dramatic clifftops west towards Cape St. Vincent. Sweeping views of the Atlantic open up at every turn. Your guide explains the famous green flash phenomenon—a rare optical effect best observed from this point at sunset.
Arrive at the iconic Cape St. Vincent Lighthouse—built on the most southwestern point of mainland Europe. Explore the historic Fortaleza de Sagres before completing the circular route back to the starting point.
