Upon your arrival at Socotra Airport in Hadiboh, you will be greeted by our friendly local Sociatri guides who will be joining you for our trip.
We will be driving to the North-East part of the island to Arher Beach, a picturesque spot where we will camp for two nights. You will be able to catch the sunrise from the magnificent sand dunes towering over the endless ocean, which are considered the largest on Socotra Island. You can swim in the sea or enjoy wading in a natural pool created by the run off from the mountains.
You will spend the day exploring and we will finish our evening with a traditional dinner watching the sunset over the Arabian Sea.
After waking up at our camp spot on Arher Beach and having breakfast, we will be driving to the base of Hoq Cave for a challenging yet rewarding hike.
Hoq Cave is one of the most ancient metropolitan cave sites of the Middle East spanning 2.2 km in length. We will be met by a local villager who will be guiding our trek up the mountain to the cave and it will take approximately 1.5 hours to reach the cave entrance.
Once inside the cave, it will take us about 40 minutes to reach the end of the explorable parts of the cave.
The cave has pools of water, stalactites and stalagmites, and even ancient cave wall paintings. Please bring a headlamp or flashlight as the cave is extremely dark.
After breakfast, we will leave our campsite on Arher beach and make our way to Homhil National Park You will be able to see the world-famous dragon blood trees, bottle trees, and other flora that is endemic to the island.
We will hike up a mountain which will take approximately 1 hour to reach an incredible natural infinity pool that overlooks the southern part of Socotra. You will be able to swim in this pool and marvel at its crystal-clear waters.
After exploring this area, we will be drive to the Dihamri Marine Protected area where we will be camping for the night. At this beach, you will be able to rent snorkeling or scuba equipment to see the gorgeous marine life. There is also countless shells and corals washed up on shore for you to marvel at.
After a day of swimming and sun lounging, we will end our day with a fresh caught fish dinner.
After breakfast. we will leave our campsite on Dihamri and make our way to Wadi Kalisahan. A short hike 30-minute hike down the side of the mountain will lead us to a beautiful natural swimming pool in a canyon. You will be able to swim in the pool while enjoying the breathtaking landscape.
After our hike, we will drive to Diksam Plateau. one of the most special places on the island. Here. you will be able to see rare flora and fauna. ln the evening. you can even search for blue baboon tarantulas, a popular pet for arachnid enthusiasts. We will set up our campsite and sleep here after having dinner.
After breakfast, we will leave our campsite at Diksam Plateau and drive to the Dirhour Canyon. Vou will see breathtaking views and even have a chance to sit on the swing installed on a Dragon Blood tree by the local community. Sadly, storms have damaged this once popular camping spot.
After marveling at the canyon, we will drive to Fennahin Forest home to the largest concentration of Dragon Blood trees on the island. We will take a 30-minute hike up the mountain to see the magnificence of the Fermahin forest which also presents an amazing photo opportunity.
We will stop for a short lunch before driving to the south of the island to Nojid. a spectacular place with sand dunes and home to Aomq beach.
After exploring the area and swimming, we will have dinner and spend the night camping
After breakfast. we will leave our campsite at Nojid and make our way to Qalnsiya, a charming and picturesque fishing town. You will be able to meet the friendly locals and explore the towns traditional houses and narrow alleyways.
After, we will head over to the protected area of Detwah Lagoon. The lagoon is renowned for its wonderous landscape and marine life The waters in certain areas of the lagoon are quite shallow for people who do not want to swim.
Please be advised that the lagoon is home to an enormous amount of marine life, including stingrays. Please be mindful of this while swimming.
For birdwatchers. this is a perfect opportunity to see many seabirds that are endemic to the island.
We will have dinner and camp overnight at Detwah Lagoon.
After waking with the sunrise at Detwah lagoon, we will take a boat tour with a local fisherman on his daily hunt to Shu’ab beach. This beach is the most stunning on the island, with its white sandy beaches and crystal-clear teal waters.
You will be able to see schools of spinner dolphins on our way to the island. The dolphins are quite playful. and enjoy putting on a showl Don’t be too distracted by the dolphins though. as you will see massive cliffs overlooking the water.
Once we reach Shu’ab beach we will be able to swim and sunlounge. The pristine beach is like no other, and is complete with mangroves.
We will take the boat back to our Detwah campsite and have lunch.
After lunch. we will make our way back to Hadiboh to spend an evening at a hotel and explore the town. You will be able to visit local shops, see the culture, and even support local women.
We will visit the Socotri Women’s Association which is a collective of hardworking women who make various handicrafts for sale. Here, you are able to support the women by purchasing a souvenir with 100% of the proceeds going to the women who made the item and her respective family.
After a week of magical explorations, it’s time to say goodbye to Socotra Island. Your driver will transport you from the hotel in Hadiboh to the Socotra lntemational Airport. The return flight to Abu Dhabi departs every Tuesday and the times differ. We will be providing you with an updated travel itinerary and keep you informed of any changes in scheduling.

The climate is a tropical desert climate. There is not much rain, most of it falls in November and December. In the monsoon the wind is very strong and the seas are high. The best time to visit is from mid-October to mid-May. Outside this time the strong winds prevent flights from going to the island.
Socotra has high temperatures all year round ranging between 27°C and 35°C.
May has an average maximum temperature of 35°C and is the warmest month of the year. The coldest month is February with an average maximum temperature of 27°C (81°F).
December tops the wettest month list with 83mm of rainfall. July is the driest month with 0mm of precipitation.
The best and really only time you can visit Socotra is from September to May. This is when the weather is most stable. In the summer months the sea winds pick up and it can make travel very difficult there. Flights are also frequently cancelled from June to August.
The currency used in Socotra is the Yemeni Rial (YR).
There are about 250 Rials to one USD and 296 Rials to one EURO (currency converter)
On your arrival, you have the opportunity to change some money into Yemeni Riyal at the National Bank and CAC banck in Hadibo, Socotra. Credit Cards and cheques are not accepted in Socotra and therefore you will need to bring cash with you (USD is well accepted on the island, with EURO as an alternative).
Meals and drinking water are included on tours to the Yemeni island. Aside from snacks and soft drinks, you’re unlikely to be spending too much. The aforementioned snacks and soft drinks will set you back $1-2 a pop
Covid
Those who are vaccinated against COVID-19, must present the vaccination certificate containing a QR code. They are not required to present a negative result of RT-PCR test for COVID-19 at the airport of departure.
Those who are not vaccinated against COVID-19, can either present a valid, negative result of an RT-PCR test conducted within 48 hours before arrival, or present a recovery certificate (containing a QR code) from COVID-19 issued within 30 days before departure, if they were previously infected with the virus.
Socotra is currently free of malaria, so use of malaria prophylactics is not recommended. However, as mosquitoes occur locally, we do recommend to use insect repellent when sitting outside after sunset.
Cholera is not present on the island at all.
Consult your doctor and dentist or travel health clinic for advice and preventive measures.
The hospitals on the island only offer basic medical services.
