Tour Details

The vastly under-explored continent of South America was once home to some of the world’s oldest civilizations. Steeped in history, South American cities have charm, beauty, and elegance unparalleled, and are simply begging to be explored. For the more adventurous who like to wander off the beaten path, countless exciting adventures and excursions await.

It’s not hard to be mesmerized by all that South America has to offer – majestic waterfalls, dense Amazonian jungles, unparalleled cuisine, wildlife both fascinating and mysterious — and with more flights to the region than ever before, it’s becoming easier to plan an unforgettable experience to this continent

CHILE
It is the longest and thinnest country in the world, which extends between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia and Argentina to the east, the Polo to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Its relief is rugged and mountainous.
In addition to sharing borders with Argentina, Peru and Bolivia, Chile also has territory in Polynesia and Antarctica, becoming a tricontinental nation.

Chile invites you to live adventures in the middle of the driest desert in the world, in front of millenary glaciers waiting to be discovered or under the watchful eye of the Andes Mountains in the midst of the movement of its capital. These contrasts have marked the identity of the country and its people.

The country is usually considered as tricontinental because in addition to its territory in the American continent, it is also present in Antarctica and Easter Island. In Chilean territory you can find all kinds of manifestations of nature: millennial glaciers, salt flats that shine like snow, the driest desert on the planet, forests, lakes, jungles and volcanoes.

ARGENTINA
Beautiful, defiant and intense, Argentina seduces with its streetside tango, wafting grills, love of fútebol, gaucho culture and the mighty Andes. It’s a formidable cocktail of wanderlust.

Argentina is a land of contrasts, from the vast plains of the east to the Andes in the West, where Aconcagua, the highest peak of the Western Hemisphere at 6,959 m, towers above the other mountains. The variety of landscape ranges from the high plateau of the Northwest – with its deserts, valleys, gorges and brightly coloured hills- to the lakes, forests, glaciers, steppe, mountains and cliffs of Patagonia. From the wetlands, lagoons, waterfalls and subtropical rainforest of the Northeast, to the expanse of flat Pampas in Buenos Aires Province and the rolling hills of Cordoba.

This tour is for travellers who want to get acquainted with this incredible region, the nature and the wilderness!

We will roam on the streets of the Huerfanos and Ahumada pedestrian walks, where a lot of the capital’s commercial activity takes place, and then we will go to Plaza de Armas, a strategic place from where the city’s first layouts were drawn. Surrounding it there are many historical buildings such as the Cathedral Church, the Post Office and the Santiago City Hall.

Our next stop will be Santa Lucia Hill and we will go up this beautiful site, important not only because of its architecture but also due to its strategical role in the foundation of the city (it is also frequently visited by a lot of people), going then to some of the other leisure places of Santiago’s locals: the Forestal Park, the Museum of Fine Arts and Lastarria neighbourhood. We will cross Mapocho river to get to Bellavista neighbourhood, known for its cultural and artistic activity, as well as for its nightlife.

Day 3 – 06Oct26 - Santiago de Chile

Breakfast at the hotel.
Today we have a full day tour to Valparaiso and Viña del Mar.
Approximate duration: 07 hours

We will depart from your hotel to the coast to visit Valparaiso, a city that was the Pacific Ocean’s main port during the 19th century, and that nowadays is one of Chile’s main touristic destinations due to its vibrant culture and particular architecture. We will also visit Viña del Mar, a charming coastal city that stands out because of its gardens and nice beaches.

The Historic Quarter of the Seaport City of Valparaíso is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The colonial city of Valparaíso presents an excellent example of late 19th-century urban and architectural development in Latin America. In its natural amphitheatre-like setting, the city is characterized by a vernacular urban fabric adapted to the hillsides that are dotted with a great variety of church spires. It contrasts with the geometrical layout utilized in the plain.

The city has well preserved its interesting early industrial infrastructures, such as the numerous ‘elevators’ on the steep hillsides.

We will pass through Casablanca, a fertile wine valley, and we will arrive to Valparaiso, obtaining stunning views of the city from one of the lookouts located on one of the 43 hills that surround the bay. We will visit some of its historic and commercial areas and the National Congress, going up afterwards in one of this city’s famous elevators. We will go to Alegre Hill, getting amazing views from the Yugoslavian Walkway and continuing to Concepcion Hill and then roaming on the picturesque Atkinson Walkway, obtaining one of Valparaiso’s best postcards.

Our next stop will be La Sebastiana, an original construction that serves nowadays as a museum and cultural centre and that houses collections of famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, continuing later to Viña del Mar. There we will visit the Casino and the main roads and gardens of the coastal area, walking then on residential neighbourhoods of modern architecture until we get to Reñaca beach.

We will finish by visiting the city centre, Vergara Square and Alvarez Avenue, returning then to the hotel in Santiago.

Regarding visas, Argentina is a country that almost all countries can enter with their passport in order, without the need to process a visa.

Weather:

CHILE
Due to the extension of the Chilean territory its temperatures are varied, although, in general, the country presents a high degree of humidity and rainfall, particularly in autumn and winter.

Chile is a country that extends for thousands of kilometres from north to south, so each region has a different climate and a different time period in which it is best to visit. In the north, the best time to visit is from May to September. In the centre, the best time to travel is summer, between November and March. In the south, the best months are during the summer, between December and February.

Different types of climates can be identified according to the region in the Republic of Chile:

– North: This is the most arid region of the country, where rainfall is scarce. The average rainfall in the Chilean region of Antofagasta is only 1 mm of rain per year. Antofagasta has the temperature in summer with a maximum of 24°C and minimum of 17°C, while in winter are the maximums of 17°C and minimum of 11°C.

– Centre: The climate in this region is of a temperate Mediterranean type, characterized by well-differentiated seasons: winters are full of clouds, cold and humidity. The beautiful spring weather predominates and temperatures start to increase, although sometimes rain is possible. In summer the temperature reaches its maximum value, and it rarely rains. In autumn, good weather prevails. The rainy season in this part of the country is between May and August. The Santiago area has an average summer temperature of 19°C, with maximums of 29°C and minimums of 12°C, while in winter the average is 7°C, with maximums of 14°C and minimums of 3°C.

– South: This region is characterized by an oceanic, humid and windy climate with low temperatures. The rainfall is especially intense from April to September; the rainiest month of all is June with 550 mm of rain, while the annual average is 2700 mm.

– Southern Region: In the northern zone of Southern Chile, rain is abundant and falls throughout the year. Average temperatures in summer are around 14°C, while in winter they are around 4°C. The southern extreme of the country is drier and colder, here rainfall is less than 500 mm per year.

ARGENTINA
There are four main kinds of climates in Argentina: warm, mild, arid and cold. They vary quite noticeably because of the extension of the territory and the different geographic reliefs.

Given the size of Argentina, each zone has its best time to visit throughout the year. If you visit the country during spring, from September to November, the weather is perfect in almost every region, although in Patagonia, the icy winds could be around as well.

The Argentine summer is between December and February, and it is the only time to climb the highest peaks of the Andes, such as the Aconcagua. On the contrary, Buenos Aires is likely to be very hot in December and January, and the north should be avoided since temperatures can be very high and roads can be flooded by heavy storms.

The Argentine autumn, March and April, is a good time to visit Mendoza and San Juan to go to the wine harvests, as well as Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.

The winter months (June, July and August) represent the ideal time to go to the ski resorts, but blizzards can block the cities of Patagonia and many places between May and August, so it is not a good time to go the southern region. Temperatures in the north of the country are usually pleasant at this time of year.

As a last point to keep in mind: Argentinean’s vacations are in January, February and July, as in other countries in Latin America, so booking transportation and accommodation can be a bit difficult task due to the high demand.

Currency:

CHILE
Since 1975 the monetary unit of Chile is the Chilean peso. There are coins that are equivalent to 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 pesos, and also 1,000, 2,000-, 5,000-, 10,000- and 20,000-peso bills.

In the many cities of the country, it is relatively easy to find automated teller machines (ATMs) that allow you to withdraw money in the local currency. At the same time, most of the established shops allow you to pay with international bank cards.

Although some shops accept dollars or euros, it is convenient to make the change to Chilean pesos, always in established shops, this way the difference in conversion will be less.

ARGENTINA
The Argentine peso.
You will find coins of 1, 2, 5 and 10 Argentine pesos, and coins of 25 and 50 cents. On the reverse of the coins appear important trees or monuments of Argentina.
The bills are 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 pesos, and carry important monuments, natural landscapes and wildlife of the country.

Currencies can be exchanged in any exchange bureau in the cities and airports, although in the latter the exchange rate is always more expensive.

We suggest bringing USD in cash and credit cards along with you; credit cards tend to be a more convenient way of payment but USD cash at the moment has a better exchange rate.

In Argentina bargaining is not common. It is not mandatory to leave tips, but if waiters serve you well, it is customary to leave around 10% in bars and restaurants.

Health/Vaccination:

CHILE
Getting access to quality medical care in Chile is possible in the larger cities such as Valparaiso and Santiago. Travellers are advised to take out comprehensive health insurance before travelling.
For medical emergencies, private services may deliver more modern equipment and a faster response. Clinicas (private hospitals) can be contacted directly in the case of a medical emergency. If bringing medication, then make sure to have a signed note from the doctor stating medical conditions.

Standards of hygiene are generally reasonable in Chile, and should not cause visitors any undue concern. Tap water in the cities is fine to drink but it does have a high mineral content and may taste different to what you’re used to. Bottled water is easily available should you prefer to stick to that. When it comes to eating out, use common sense – only eat food that has been freshly cooked and looks to have been prepared in hygienic conditions.

Vaccinations against tuberculosis and hepatitis B are sometimes recommended. When travelling to rural parts of Chile, care should be taken to avoid the hantavirus, a potentially fatal condition that is spread by rodents. In particular, avoid resting near tall grasses or haystacks, don’t leave food sources lying around and make sure rustic cabins are well aired out and free from any sign of rodents.

ARGENTINA
Argentina has a well-developed healthcare system, offering public and private healthcare services. Public hospitals provide free emergency care to everyone, including tourists, but they can be crowded, particularly in urban areas.

Note 1: The risk of yellow fever in Argentina is low and primarily confined to the northeastern regions, particularly along the borders with Brazil and Paraguay. Vaccination is recommended for travellers aged 9 months and older who plan to visit the Corrientes and Misiones provinces, which include the lguazu Falls area. Proof of vaccination is not currently required for entry into Argentina.

Note 2: The risk of rabies in Argentina is low. However, individuals involved in activities that increase exposure to animals (e.g., caving, wildlife research) should consider pre-exposure vaccination.

Note 3: Malaria risk in Argentina is very low and is primarily limited to the low-altitude regions of the Salta province bordering Bolivia, and parts of the Chaco, Corrientes, and Misiones provinces near the borders with Paraguay and Brazil.

Tap water in major cities is safe to drink and food hygiene is generally good.
In remote areas of Argentina, including Patagonia, travellers should avoid drinking tap water unless it has been treated or filtered. While some rural areas and mountain regions may have access to natural springs with clean water, it’s best to err on the side of caution. Boiling water for at least 1 minute or using water purification tablets are recommended.

The risk of dengue fever is present. Travellers should use insect repellents, wear long-sleeved clothing, and stay in accommodations with proper mosquito netting or screens.
